Trial date set for father of missing 2-year-old

DETROIT (AP) -- A Detroit father charged with murder and child abuse following the disappearance of his 2-year-old daughter faces a Sept. 18 trial in Wayne County Circuit Court. The Detroit Free Press says a judge set D'Andre Lane's trial date Tuesday. The 32-year-old is being held without bond. Bianca Jones disappeared Dec. 2. Lane has said his daughter was taken during a carjacking. The car was found, but the girl wasn't in it. Dozens of people help search for the child. Lane is accused of beating Bianca to death with a stick with a towel wrapped in duct tape, and disposing of her body. Defense attorney Terry Johnson has said prosecutors have no evidence against Lane, and their "case is based on the argument that he spanked her." Published: Thu, Jun 7, 2012
