Ex-police officer getting $1 million settlement

SAGINAW (AP) -- A former Saginaw police officer who claimed he was fired in 2006 and discriminated against because of his race is expected to get more than $1 million in a settlement. The Saginaw News reports Saginaw City Council recently approved the settlement for former Officer Danny McDole. In March, judges for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit declined to overturn a $1 million jury award for McDole, who is black. McDole won the judgment in 2009. Rather than seek an appeal with the U.S. Supreme Court, Saginaw officials this month opted to pay the settlement. The newspaper obtained details of the settlement following a Freedom of Information Act request. On top of the settlement, interest and attorney fees are expected. Published: Mon, Jul 9, 2012
