State Senate approves Patriot Week resolution
Last Wednesday the Michigan Senate unanimously approved State Senate Resolution No.168 designating the week of September 11-17, 2012, as Michigan Patriot Week. Patriot Week, which symbolically begins on the anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11 and concludes on Constitution Day, September 17, was co-founded by Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Michael Warren and his then 10-year-old daughter, Leah Warren.
Patriot Week was founded to strengthen the American spirit by focusing on education to revive appreciation and understanding of American history and America's First Principles--the rule of law, unalienable rights, equality, the Social Compact, limited government, and revolution.
Upon hearing the announcement, Judge Warren remarked: "Patriot Week is vital to renewing the spirit of America. We are very thankful for the support and encouragement of this bi-partisan effort by the entire membership of the Michigan Senate."
The Resolution recognizes "that each generation needs to renew the spirit of America based on America's First Principles, historical figures, founding documents, and symbols of America." The Resolution calls upon citizens and organizations "to recognize and participate in Patriot Week by honoring and celebrating so that all may offer the reverence that is due to our free republic."
Warren currently serves as the presiding judge of the Oakland County Circuit Court - Criminal/Civil Division. He is also the chair of Patriot Week Inc. and Cornerstone Schools Association and is a former member of the State Board of Education.
