Center hosts 'Fabulous Friday' to end bullying
On Friday, Sept. 14, from 6 to 8 p.m., the Oakland Mediation Center (OMC) will host "Fabulous Friday--Finds and Fun...on wheels!" at Leon and Lulu, 96 W. 14 Mile Road in Clawson.
Leon & Lulu is an eclectic mix of upscale furniture, unforgettable gifts, and accessories in an environment unlike any other. Located in the historic Ambassador Roller Rink, they offer 15,000 square feet of fabulous shopping. Guests will be enjoy complimentary hors d'oeuvres, wine, beer and soft drinks delivered by servers on roller skates as they mix, mingle and shop the impressive store. One hundred percent of proceeds from ticket sales and 10% of purchases will be used to deliver programs proven to stop bullying and youth violence.
Bullying is a hot topic in today's society simply because it is a problem that has grown out of control. This social disease strikes at the very core of basic human behavior and we must find a way to stop bullying now.
Oakland Mediation Center (OMC), a private 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is uniquely qualified with expertise in programs proven to prevent and reduce bullying and violence, keeping kids in school and out of the juvenile justice system.
Since 1989, OMC has served the community empowering ore than 91,000 youth to peacefully resolve conflict themselves through mediation and education programs. Due to cutbacks at the federal and state level schools no longer have funding to provide these vital programs. Funds raised at Fabulous Friday will subsidize the gap and provide students with life skills they would not otherwise possess. Oakland Mediation Center's Youth Programs stop the circle of violence. Students will become workers that attract 21st century jobs and pass the learned life skills onto their children. Donations will pass onto future generations.
"So often we hear about people who have been bullied and nothing about solutions. OMC's "Fabulous Friday" provides the opportunity to enjoy a fun Friday evening and support programs for our schools proven to stop bullying!" said Executive Director Bonnie Hanes. Ticket prices are $25 and can be purchased at www.mediation-omc.org.
