Chairman of NLRB to keynote labor law symposium

Mark Pearce, chairman of the National Labor Relations Board, will give the keynote talk during Wayne State University Law School's 20th annual Bernard Gottfried Memorial Labor Law Symposium from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17. Wayne Law students, alumni and friends interested in increasing their insight into labor law are invited to attend the symposium, which will be held in the Law School's Spencer M. Partrich Auditorium. Sponsored by Wayne Law, NLRB Region 7, and the State Bar of Michigan's Labor and Employment Law Section, the event will feature breakout sessions led by well-known local and national labor relations experts. The symposium honors the vision of Bernard Gottfried (1925-92), who was director of NLRB Region 7 from 1973 until his death. He taught at Wayne Law for many years. Registration and a continental breakfast will start off the day at 8 a.m., to be followed by opening remarks by Wayne Law Dean Robert Ackerman and NLRB Region 7 Director Terry Morgan. Morning panel discussions will include "New Units-New Hearings: Specialty Healthcare and Changed Burdens -- Changes for the Better?" and "Right to Work -- Who Owns the Right?" After a luncheon at noon, Pearce will deliver the keynote talk. Special afternoon sessions will include "Social Media and Board Law" and "Post-arbitral Deferral: Where Is It Going?" The registration fee for the symposium is $100, which includes all sessions, breakfast and lunch. Students, NLRB staff and government employees can register for a reduced cost of $25. Proceeds from the symposium will be used to fund future educational programs and labor-related studies at Wayne Law.
