Southern Oakland County NAACP celebrates 30th year at annual dinner

The Southern Oakland County chapter of the NAACP has announced that attorney Geoffrey Fieger will be the keynote speaker at this year's Freedom Fund Dinner, scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 21, at the Westin Hotel in Southfield. This year's SOC Freedom Fund dinner theme is "Standing United for Civil Rights and Justice for All." The program will also include the first annual "Civil Rights Hall of Fame" honoring six individuals from the Southern Oakland County area who have made a significant contribution to Civil Rights, within the last ten years. The Southern Oakland County, Michigan chapter of the National Association of the Advancement of Colored People was chartered in 1982, under the national organization by former Assistant Attorney General Robert Willis and fellow associates. The mission of the NAACP is to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination.
