Charity run ending at Michigan Stadium canceled

ANN ARBOR (AP) -- A charity run with a finish line at Michigan Stadium has been canceled after school officials said the home of the Wolverines football team wouldn't be available for the event. AnnArbor.com and The Michigan Daily report organizers of "Big House Big Heart" announced this week that the seventh annual run set for April 14 won't happen. Andrea Highfield's Champions for Charity coordinates the event and she says she was "baffled" by the development. Michigan spokesman Dave Ablauf says the athletic department decided the event no longer fit its charitable mission. The event ending at the Big House brought in thousands of runners who raced and walked 10-kilometer, 5-kilometer and 1-mile paths in downtown Ann Arbor and University of Michigan's campus.
