Southfield Schools chief receives state-wide honor
SOUTHFIELD (AP) -- The lead administrator for Southfield's public schools has been named the state's top superintendent.
Wanda Cook-Robinson received the honor from the Michigan Association of School Administrators which represents superintendents and first-line administrators at local and intermediate school districts.
The organization said Cook-Robinson's leadership and advocacy for public education led to her selection. She is credited with improving learning, closing achievement gaps and supporting excellence in the suburban Detroit district.
She will be recognized for the award during a January conference in Kalamazoo.
The selection also is part of the American Association of School Administrator's National Superintendent of the Year Program. Cook-Robinson is a finalist for that award which will be announced in February.
She has spent the past six years as superintendent in Southfield.
