Center provides mediator training opportunities

People face conflict every single day of their life. Oakland Mediation Center (OMC) offers 40-Hour Domestic and Civil Mediator Trainings as well as Advanced Mediator Training to any individual who wishes to learn and enhance their skills to help others workout their disputes. Mediation training can enhance participants' current skill set and marketability, allow them to be eligible for the court roster list of approved mediators and improve their communication and negotiating skills personally and professionally. The "10 Biggest Roadblocks to a Successful Mediation" training will be held on Friday, May 31, with Antoinette Raheem and Earlene Baggett-Hayes. In this interactive training, trainees will focus on strategies for avoiding, and/or overcoming problems that frequently derail mediation, such as the mediator's loss of neutrality, high emotions between the parties, when attorneys present challenges, lack of familiarity with cultural differences, and more. Trainees will participate in role plays to strategize and develop options to address the various obstacles, with the insights of two highly trained and experienced mediators. The training cost is $295. The "40-Hour Civil Mediation Training" provides participants with conflict management, communication, facilitation, and negotiation skills. It is designed to teach participants the skills necessary to act as mediators in facilitating the resolution of general civil disputes from the initial consultation to writing the mediation agreement. The next training will be offered June 6, 13, 20, 27, July 11, 2013 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The training cost is $1,095. The "40-Hour Domestic Relations Mediator Training" teaches participants the skills necessary to act as mediators in facilitating the resolution of divorce and custody disputes from the initial consultation to writing the mediation agreement. This training will be offered October 18, 25, November 1, 8, 15, 22, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The training cost is $1,390.00 and includes the SCAO required 8-hour Domestic Violence Screening Training. OMC's Trainings are approved by the State Court Administrative Office and are designed to be highly interactive and skill based. The trainings take place at the Oakland Mediation Center in Bloomfield Hills and include continental breakfast, lunch, snacks and course materials.
