Local man arrested after passenger cusses police

WATERFORD TOWNSHIP (AP) -- A local man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after a passenger in his vehicle screamed obscenities out the window as they drove past police. Waterford Township police Sgt. Chester Bartle tells the Detroit Free Press "we got a drunk driver off the streets because a passenger decided to yell at the cops." Police say officers were conducting a traffic stop early Saturday when Benjamin Jonas drove past, and a passenger cussed out the window. Officers stopped Jonas' car several blocks away. He faces a drunken driving charge. The 34-year-old Jonas was arraigned on Saturday and remains in the Oakland County jail. Bartle says the passenger received a disorderly conduct citation and has up to 10 days to voluntarily appear in court for his arraignment. Published: Wed, Jun 12, 2013
