Murder suspect waives hearing in obstruction case

CLINTON TOWNSHIP (AP) -- A prosecutor says a suburban Detroit man who's charged with obstructing police investigating the killings of a woman and her 11-year-old daughter is a top suspect in a murder investigation. Twenty-nine-year-old Jay T. Miller waived a preliminary examination Monday on the obstruction charge, and Clinton Township District Judge Matthew Rumora ordered his $200,000 bond remain in place while the case proceeds. Forty-seven-year-old Tina Geiger and her daughter Kristina were found fatally slashed in their apartment July 30. Defense lawyer Ron Paige tells the Detroit Free Press that his client is being held on "trumped up charges." In court, Macomb County Assistant Prosecutor Erin Alman said Miller is a threat to the community, a convicted sex offender and a top murder suspect. Alman didn't directly cite the Geigers' deaths.
