County wins GFOA Award of Excellence
County Executive L. Brooks Patterson announced Wednesday that Oakland County has garnered the Award of Excellence for its Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR) for Fiscal Year 2012 from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). This is the 16th year in a row the county has received this coveted recognition.
The Fiscal Services Division compiles the PAFR to summarize for taxpayers how the county spends their money. It is one of the ways the Patterson administration works to make county government more transparent and accessible to its residents.
"My management and budget team is known for its excellence and they live up to it every day," Patterson said. "Their peers at the GFOA consistently recognize the hard work that goes into making the county more transparent to our residents."
The GFOA gives the PAFR award based on the creativity, presentation, ease of understanding and reader appeal of the financial report.
"This award is particularly gratifying because we changed the format this year to be even more user-friendly for our residents," said Tim Soave, fiscal services division manager.
Soave said special recognition belongs to Fiscal Services Supervisor II Gaia Piir, who manages the compilation of the report, and Graphic Artist Pam Tremble, who with her intern Danielle Gravelle, redesigned this year's PAFR.

Oakland County also holds the current GFOA awards for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and for budget presentation.
