County hosts first pet adoption event to help win $100,000 grant
Oakland County Animal Control and Pet Adoption Center will host its Father's Day Bow Wow event on Saturday, June 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is the first event scheduled to help the center reach its goal to adopt out 2,014 pets during the months of June, July and August. The center is competing for a $100,000 grant from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and Rachael Ray.
With an objective to save more lives, the $100,000 grant will go to the animal shelter with the most improved adoption numbers. The center adopted out 1,000 dogs and cats in 2013 for June, July and August.
The event will include bounce houses, food trucks, face painting, psychic readings for pets and humans, raffles and a "dress your dog like your dad" event. Of course, one can adopt a dog or cat with dad or for dad. Kittens and cats are $57.50. Puppies under four months are $114 and dogs over four months are $136.50. The center is located at 1700 Brown Road in Auburn Hills.
For additional information, visit www.oakgov.com/petadoption or call the center at 248-391-4100. Follow the center's progress toward its goal on Facebook at www.facebook.com/oakgov.pac.
