Pro Bono Service Award honors attorney

Attorney Thomas J. Guyer (right) of Guyer Rose PLLC, Royal Oak, received the Oakland County Bar Association’s Pro Bono Service Award at its annual meeting on June 11.

Guyer received the award for representing clients of Legal Aid and Defender Association Inc. (LAD).

Lynda Krupp (left), managing attorney of LAD’s Private Attorney Involvement unit, presented the award.  She said Guyer volunteered for pro bono work shortly after retiring as assistant general counsel for Bank of America and founding his own law firm.

“Tom has prevented many evictions of low-income families with children,” Krupp said. “He has prevented many clients from paying money to creditors that they did not owe. . . He has provided all of these low-income defendants with access to justice by insuring that theyhave representation,” Krupp added.

“The highlight of my career has been helping indigent clients,” Guyer said. “I can think of nothing more rewarding.”
