Michigan joblessness up 1.3 points to 8.6 percent

LANSING (AP) - Michigan authorities say the influx of seasonal workers into the job market drove the unadjusted unemployment up 1.3 percentage points to 8.6 percent in the latest month. The state Department of Technology, Management & Budget last Thursday released seasonally unadjusted joblessness figures for May. The statewide unemployment rate was 7.3 percent in April and 8 percent in March. It was 7.3 percent in May 2013. The department says May's unemployment rates ranged from a low of 6.1 percent in the Ann Arbor region to a high of 10.9 percent in the northeastern Lower Peninsula.
