Commissioners announce annual budget presentation with county executive

 The Oakland County Board of Commissioners announces an evening meeting scheduled for Wednesday, July 16, beginning at 7 p.m. This evening meeting will be held in the Oakland County Board of Commissioners Auditorium located at 1200 North Telegraph Road in Pontiac. 

Oakland County residents will have the opportunity to hear the 2015-2017 Oakland County Budget Recommendations from Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson.

“I am looking forward to working with the County Executive to once again adopt another three-year balanced budget. Our ability to be fiscally responsible and to invest in areas that grow our economy is the backbone to our long-term sustainability,” stated Oakland County Board Chairman Michael J. Gingell.

The meeting will be webcasted and recorded by Trenton, Michigan based company SoundQue. The public will be able to view the “live” webcast at www.oakgov/boc  or www.oakland.michiganliveevents.com

Following the budget presentation, a series of Finance Committee budget hearings are scheduled during the committee’s regular meetings and will begin at 9:30 a.m. on these dates:

• Thursday, July 24. Hearings will begin at 10 a.m.  County Executive, Circuit and District Courts, and Probate Court.

• Thursday, Aug. 14.  Hearings will begin at 10 a.m. County Treasurer, Clerk/Registers of Deeds, Sheriff, Water Resources Commission, Prosecutor, Board of Commissioners, Library Board, Parks and Recreation.

• Thursday, Aug. 28.  Hearings/budget wrap-up, 10 a.m. to noon.

All budget hearing meetings are held in Committee Room A, located at 1200 N. Telegraph Road in Pontiac, near the Board of Commissioners’ Auditorium.  All meetings are open to the public.

“This year, we will have all elected officials address the Finance Committee to get insight on how they will work within the framework of the recommended budget. We want to continue ‘the theme of leaders working together’ which is a continuation of our AAA Bond Rating and sound budgeting success,” stated Oakland County Board Finance Chairman Thomas F. Middleton.

The nine member Finance Committee is led by Oakland County Commissioner Thomas F.  Middleton (R), who serves as the finance chairperson and includes Commissioner Shelley Goodman Taub (R), who serves as the finance majority vice chairperson, Commissioner David Woodward (D), who serves as the finance minority vice chairperson. The committee also consists of Commissioners Christine A. Long (R), John A. Scott (R), Kathy S. Crawford (R), Board Vice Chairperson Jeff Matis (R), Nancy L. Quarles (D) and Helaine M. Zack (D).

This committee oversees the county’s more than $1/2 billion budget, in conjunction, with the full Board of Commissioners and the County Administration.

“This budget process is about as much about reflecting our shared community values as it is about making sure we pay the bills,” said Oakland County Finance Committee’s Minority Vice-Chairperson David Woodward, “We will continue to make sure Oakland County is working to grow the middle class, protect our residents, create jobs, and fix our roads.”
