Task Force's report on State Bar of Michigan available for comment
The Report of the Task Force on the Role of the State Bar of Michigan was delivered in June to the Michigan Supreme Court. The report was prepared by the Task Force to fulfill responsibilities under Administrative Order No. 2014-5. The Michigan Supreme Court is grateful for the Task Force's sustained and timely efforts to draft this report and looks forward to receiving public comments through August 4.
The public is invited to comment on whether the Task Force report:
(1) adequately assessed the First Amendment problems concerning required membership in a bar association.
(2) provided a sufficient blueprint to ensure that the bar association's ideological activities will not encroach on the First Amendment rights of its members.
Comments regarding the report can be emailed to ADMcomment@courts.mi.gov. To comment using U.S. mail, write to: Office of Administrative Counsel, PO Box 30052, Lansing, 48909.
Administrative Order No. 2004-1 (page 70) pertains to State Bar of Michigan activities.
The report is available online. Visit http://courts.mi.gov/Courts/MichiganSupremeCourt and click on "Administrative Matters & Court Rules."
