Meeting to examine Great Lakes Water Authority

On Thursday, Sept. 18, beginning at 11 a.m., Oakland County Commissioners will host a special informational meeting for local elected officials on the Great Lakes Water Authority proposed deal. The meeting will be held in the Oakland County Board of Commissioners Auditorium located at 1200 North Telegraph Road in Pontiac. Elected officials from the county's 61 cities, villages and townships are invited. Representatives from the County Executive, the Water Resources Commission and the Oakland County Board of Commissioners will provide insight about the proposed water deal and creation of the authority as well as answer questions regarding the issue. "It is imperative that we present all the facts to the local elected officials about the proposed Great Lakes Water Authority deal. We want to make sure that they have an opportunity to voice their concerns about it to county leadership. It is very important that they know what the articles of incorporation will require of Oakland County before we cast a vote," stated Oakland County Board Chairman Michael J. Gingell. On September 29, 2014, the Oakland County Board of Commissioners' General Government Committee will be presented with the proposed Great Lakes Water Authority articles of incorporation by the Oakland County Executive's Office. On October 8, 2014, the 21-member Oakland County Board of Commissioners will vote on whether to adopt the articles of incorporation for the Great Lakes Water Authority. "As you know the water system has many financial problems, it is essential that local government leaders understand, at this point and time, the impact that the proposed water deal will have on many generations to come," stated Oakland County Commissioner Robert Gosselin. He serves as the chair of the Oakland County Detroit Water and Sewerage Department Study Group.
