Philanthropist Stephen Ross to speak April 9 at Wayne Law

Stephen Ross, a world-class real estate developer, philanthropist and owner of the Miami Dolphins, will visit his alma mater, Wayne State University Law School, on Thursday, April 9. As part of the visit, Ross, Wayne Law class of 1965, will participate in a question-and-answer session with law school Dean Jocelyn Benson, discussing his career and accomplishments over the past 50 years. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Spencer M. Partrich Auditorium at the law school, 471 W. "In getting to know him as dean and through interviewing him for our magazine, I've seen how excited he is about his time at Wayne Law. We look forward to our students, alumni and the community getting to hear his thoughts from decades of experience in real estate development, the law, philanthropy and professional sports team ownership." As chairman and founder of Related Companies, Ross developed the Time Warner Center in New York City. His latest project, Hudson Yards, is described as building a new city within Midtown Manhattan. Formed in 1972, Related includes more than 2,500 professionals. It has developed more than $22 billion in real estate and owns real estate assets valued at more than $20 billion. Ross also is owner of the Miami Dolphins and Sun Life Stadium. He is working on a project to combat bullying using sports. Ross is chairman of the Board of Directors of Equinox Holdings Inc., serves on the Executive Committee and is a trustee of Lincoln Center, and is a trustee of New York-Presbyterian Hospital and the Guggenheim Foundation. He is a director on the board of the Culture Shed and the Jackie Robinson Foundation and is chairperson emeritus of the Real Estate Board of New York, the city's leading real estate trade association. Ross is also a director on the board of the World Resources Institute and recently established the institute's Ross Center for Sustainable Cities. He earned a bachelor of business administration degree from the University of Michigan, law degree from Wayne Law and master of laws in taxation from New York University School of Law. In 2004, the University of Michigan renamed its business school the Stephen M. Ross School of Business, and, in 2011, the University of Michigan awarded Ross an honorary doctor of laws degree.
