LANSING (AP) — The state says Michigan’s seasonally unadjusted unemployment rate rose a full percentage point to 6.6 percent in January, largely because of normal annual changes in the job market.
The Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget released regional employment figures last Thursday. January’s jobless rate is down 1.8 percentage points from 8.4 percent one year earlier.
The department says January’s regional unemployment rates ranged from a low of 3.9 percent in the Ann Arbor area to a high of 11 percent in the northeastern Lower Peninsula.
It says the jobless rate in populous metropolitan Detroit rose 0.9 points in January to 7.4 percent.
