One-time allocation for Oakland County roads supported unanimously

Members of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to allocate a one-time appropriation of $2 million in Fiscal Year 2015 to assist the Road Commission of Oakland County (RCOC) in purchasing road equipment. This activity will allow the RCOC to repurpose the money they had committed for equipment acquisition directly into repairing potholes and deteriorating roads in Oakland County.

The 19-0 vote in favor of the bipartisan resolution MR#15135, sponsored by Oakland County Board Chairman Michael J. Gingell (R), is the latest effort of commission members to address the road issues.

“We know that the residents of Oakland County are frustrated with the road conditions.  We are all dodging potholes and driving on a crumbling road infrastructure on a daily basis.  While this action will not fix all of our road problems, it is something that can have an immediate impact. Ultimately, the longer-term, sustainable fix needs to come from the legislature and we are hopeful that a solution will come forward soon” said Michael Gingell, chairman of the Board of Commissioners.

This effort is supported by County Executive L. Brooks Patterson. This one-time expenditure will not create an undue burden on the overall financial health of Oakland County which has approved a balanced budget through 2020.
