Every year, Law Day gives away four new bikes. Congratulating a winner at last year’s event were (left to right) attorney Jim Scieszka, WMUZ-FM’s Robin Sullivan, attorney Scott Goodwin, and WMUZ’s Chris Stevenson.

Since Law Day began in 1986, Goodwin & Scieszka PC has donated (and fitted) 10,000 bicycle safety helmets to local children at no charge. The firm continues that tradition with its 28th annual Bike Helmet Giveaway & Free Legal Aid Clinic on Saturday, June 6.

Birmingham-based law firm Goodwin & Scieszka is sponsoring Law Day with more than 20 attorneys donating their time to give legal advice to the public. In addition to pro bono counseling, visitors enjoy free food, prizes, and a carnival atmosphere.

It’s outdoor fun for families with inflatables, live band, balloon artist, and free hot dogs and ice cream. Local radio personalities greet their fans, Detroit Tigers mascot “Paws” poses with kids, and drawings are conducted to win Tigers tickets and four free bikes.

Last year, about half of all attenders requested a free confidential legal consultation.

Attorney Scott Goodwin says, “It’s gratifying to think that these free helmets may have prevented children from being seriously injured. This year, some of the area’s best lawyers will donate their time – it’s a great chance to help area families and individuals.”

Goodwin founded the Goodwin & Scieszka Law Center with his partner, Jim Scieszka, in 1986. The firm is located at 999 Haynes, Suite 385, in Birmingham.

The Law Day event take place Saturday, June 6, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is free to all ages. Goodwin & Scieszka is located at 999 Haynes, Suite 385, in Birmingham, directly behind Walgreen’s on Woodward south of Maple.
