Multiple drunken driving convictions nets man prison time

MOUNT CLEMENS (AP) - A Detroit area man with multiple drunken driving convictions has been sentenced to prison.

The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens reports that Macomb County Circuit Judge Mary Chrzanowski on Tuesday order 44-year-old Brian Charbeneau to serve 1 to 7 ½ years.

Charbeneau of Mount Clemens has six drunken driving convictions in Michigan dating back to 1991. He pleaded guilty in May to a November drunken driving charge in Fraser, north of Detroit.

He also has three convictions in Florida.

Defense attorney Sean Kowalski had sought probation.

But Assistant Macomb Prosecutor John Hunt said after Tuesday's sentencing that Charbeneau "should not be eligible for probation when he's got nine convictions."
