LANSING (AP) - A new audit finds issues with contracting and accounting practices of two former programs operated by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority.
The recent audit examined contracting practices at the Michigan Community Development Corp. and the Michigan Mezzanine Investment Fund, both of which are no longer active.
The audit was conducted by the state's chief internal auditor Jeffrey Bankowski at the request of the Housing Development Authority.
It found competitive bidding was not used on all contracts. In addition, more than $18,000 of expenses related to contracts was found to be inappropriate or inflated.
Housing Development Authority director Kevin Elsenheimer says the department has "already taken several steps" to move forward, including creating a procurement office that will develop standard policies and procedures for contracts.
