Crowdfunding campaign in full swing for local cat rescue mission

Twelve days remain in a crowdfunding campaign for a new local cat rescue mission. Ferndale Cat Shelter (FCS), a newly formed 501(c)3 charity, is raising funds on the IndieGoGo website at https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/ferndale-catfe#/story to launch Ferndale Catfe, a coffee shop for cat lovers.

The deadline for the campaign is Aug. 21. Its initial goal of $2,500 has already been exceeded, but more funds will be needed to build out the cafe portion, according to Benjamin Long, a Ferndale-based business attorney who founded FCS.

Long and FCS Director Deanne Iovan are considering commercial space on Livernois Avenue in Ferndale to accommodate the Catfe and the coffee shop.

"We are offering many 'perks' on our IndieGoGo campaign that we hope will inspire people to give," Iovan said. "This is the most sustainable business model for operating a cat shelter. It's also a fun and unique approach to animal rescue, and we think Ferndale is the perfect city to launch our Catfe."

Detailed information on the Catfe is available on its page on the IndieGoGo website. For further information on FSC, visit its website at http://ferndalecatshelter.org/.
