Man gets life in prison in 1999 slaying of 84-year-old woman

DETROIT (AP) - A man convicted in the 1999 slaying of an 84-year-old woman through a unique glove and DNA match has been sentenced to life in prison. Nosakhare Onumonu was sentenced last Friday in Detroit's Wayne County Circuit Court to a mandatory term of life in prison without parole. The 38-year-old was convicted of first-degree murder in the slaying of Helen Klocek, whose body was found in an alley behind a church on the city's west side. Klocek left a restaurant near her apartment in the Detroit suburb of Plymouth Township. She was found beaten and killed about 17 miles away and the case turned cold. But evidence later led to charges against Onumonu, a four-time convicted felon. Onumonu maintains his innocence and his lawyer says there was reasonable doubt. Published: Tue, Aug 25, 2015
