No local prosecution for man facing federal pornography charges

WEST BLOOMFIELD (AP) - Authorities say a 21-year-old former day camp counselor facing federal child pornography charges won't face local prosecution.

The Detroit Free Press reports Tuesday investigators in Oakland County couldn't find evidence of criminal wrongdoing by Matthew Kuppe. He was charged in August and fired as a counselor at the Jewish Community Center, which operates camps in West Bloomfield and Oak Park.

West Bloomfield Police Chief Michael Patton says his department is working with federal prosecutors but the local investigation has nearly concluded.

Kuppe has been charged with production, distribution, receipt and possession of child pornography. He's accused of taking photos of boys in a locker room.

He's in federal custody. Defense attorney Walter Piszczatowski says Kuppe has no criminal history and should be released to his parents.
