Federal judge dismisses some defendants from inmate death lawsuit

DETROIT (AP) - A federal judge dismissed about 30 defendants, including 16 sheriff's deputies, from a lawsuit brought by family of a man who died in a Detroit-area jail.

U.S. District Court Judge Linda Parker also agreed with Macomb County and its jail medical services provider to sever allegations of David Stojcevski's brother, who was jailed at the same time, from the lawsuit. More than a dozen defendants remain.

The Detroit Free Press reports Vladimir Stojcevski will file his own claim.

David Stojcevski died in June 2014 in the jail. The lawsuit says the 32-year-old suffered serious withdrawals from drug use and died after serving 16 days of a 30-day careless driving sentence. Video shows him hallucinating in his cell and shaking with seizures.

The FBI is reviewing circumstances surrounding his death.
