DETROIT (AP) — The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan has approved more than $56 million in funding for nonprofits.

The philanthropic organization says in a release that the funding was made last year through more than 3,700 grants.

Grants included $50,000 to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen to support a partnership providing free legal services to the homeless, $50,000 over two years to Asia and Pacific Islander American Vote Michigan for a leadership program, and $125,000 to New Detroit Inc. to provide technical assistance services to early childhood organizations and small minority-owned businesses.

The grants benefit nonprofits across seven southeast Michigan counties and support programs ranging from the arts, education and health to economic development and the environment.
