Western Michigan University Cooley Law School’s Auburn Hill campus recently hosted students from the International Academy as part of the high school’s Career Exploration Program. The program is designed to expose students to careers and provide them with practical advice on how to reach their goals. During the visit, WMU-Cooley Assistant Dean Lisa Halushka (left) and Associate Dean Joan Vestrand (right) spoke to students about their careers as lawyers. In addition, students toured the law school’s trial and appellate courtrooms, library, classrooms and participated in a mock Criminal Procedures class. Val Schnable and Ieisha Humphrey, WMU-Cooley admissions coordinators, provided tips on pathways into law school, applying for admission into law school, and mentoring programs. “I am delighted at the interest and participation you all showed today in this mock class,” said Halushka. “The legal analysis and reasoning you’ve shown today demonstrates that law may be a well-suited career path for you.” The International Academy’s Career Exploration Program also included stops at the Michigan Supreme Court, Oakland Country Circuit Court and the Auburn Hills Police Department.
