Clerk faces embezzlement charge

OAK PARK (AP) - An Oak Park treasury clerk who authorities say took money from the Detroit suburb has been charged with embezzlement and counterfeiting.

The Detroit News reports 32-year-old Shemika Terry was arraigned Wednesday on charges of embezzlement by an agent or trustee between $20,000 and $50,000 and possession of counterfeit notes with intent to utter or publish.

Judge David Gubow set personal bond at $50,000. Terry returns to court June 9.

The Associated Press sent an email Thursday seeking comment from Terry's attorney Jerome Barney.

Oak Park says Terry was suspended with pay. The Oakland County prosecutor's office says the theft took place between April 29 and May 3.

The city says security measures put in place after an earlier embezzlement case involving a former deputy city clerk helped investigators.
