Mediation trainings can enhance impact

Oakland Mediation Center (OMC), a mediation and conflict resolution training facility, invites legal professionals to its 2016 mediation trainings. OMC offers 40-Hour General Civil Mediation Training and Advanced Mediation Training to any individual who wishes to learn and enhance skills to help others resolve their disputes. Mediation training can enhance participants’ current skill set and marketability, allow participants to be eligible for the court list of approved mediators, and improve communication and negotiating skills personally and professionally.

The State Court Administrative Office (SCAO) approved, “40-Hour General Civil Mediation Training” teaches participants the skills necessary to act as mediators in facilitating the resolution of civil disputes from the initial consultation to writing the mediation agreement. This training will be held July 25, 26, 27, 28, and 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.  The cost of training is $1,095, with discounts for early registration. Participants will receive a detailed mediation manual, jump-drive containing reproducible mediation forms, as well as a certificate of attendance. Those completing their training at OMC become eligible for discounts on practical experience opportunities.

For training beyond the 40-Hour General Civil, look forward to OMC’s 8 hour Advanced Training “Facilitation Skills from Mediations to Meetings.” This training will be delivered on August 18 by Zena Zumeta of the Mediation Training & Consultation Institute. In this multi-faceted, SCAO approved training, participants will gain the facilitation skills necessary to run successful mediations and meetings.  By using discussion, videos, and demonstrations participants will build on the elements of communication, problem-solving, and facilitation skills that are used in both group mediations and meetings. Participants will receive a copy of the book “Great Meetings! Great Results” by Dee Kelsey and Pam Plum.

“OMC’s vision is a community that embraces a conflict resolution path towards positive and lasting outcomes,” said Bonnie Hanes, OMC executive director. “These trainings are designed to give participants skills they can use immediately to serve their clients and make a lasting impact on our community.”

OMC’s trainings are approved by SCAO and are designed to be highly interactive and skill based. The trainings take place at Oakland Mediation Center in Bloomfield Hills and include continental breakfast, lunch, snacks and course materials. For additional information about these trainings and others, contact the OMC training department at 248-338-4280, ext. 216.
