Rabia Chaudry (third from right), the attorney who introduced Adnan Syed’s case to the Serial podcast creator, spoke Friday, Feb. 3, at Wayne State University in Detroit. More than 80 people attended the event hosted by Wayne State University Law School’s Muslim Law Students Association. It has also been viewed more than 2,000 times on Periscope. Welcoming Chaudry to Wayne Law were (left to right) second-year law student Linda Girard; Interim Dean Lance Gable; second-year law student Husnah Khan, president of Wayne Law’s Muslim Law Students Association; Interim Associate Dean Susan Cancelosi; and Professor Peter J. Hammer, director of Wayne Law’s Damon J. Keith Center for Civil Rights. In 2000, Syed was convicted of killing his former high school girlfriend, despite claiming his innocence. His story is at the center of the first season of “Serial,” a podcast that tells one true story over the course of a season. In addition, it’s the focus of the first season of the podcast “Undisclosed,” of which Chaudry is co-host and co-producer.
