On April 27, Secrest Wardle Executive Partner Margaret Scott and law clerk Laura Ivezaj, both of the firm's Troy location, attended the Women Officials Network (WON) Foundation's 33rd annual WONder Woman Awards Banquet. The event took place at the San Marino Club in Troy. Secrest Wardle served as a Benefactor sponsor for the celebration. Five successful women were recognized for improving the quality of life in Southeast Michigan through their civic, philanthropic and professional accomplishments.

The 2017 WONder Women honored at the awards ceremony were: Tiffany Douglas, senior vice president, marketing manager, Bank of America; Rev. Faith Fowler, executive director, Cass Community Social Services; Faye Alexander Nelson, president and board chairman, DTE Foundation; Michigan Court of Appeals Judge Colleen O'Brien; and Eileen Pulker, clerk, Village of Franklin. The evening included networking opportunities, dinner, and an awards presentation.

Laura Ivezaj, a law clerk at Secrest Wardle, and current Western Michigan University Cooley Law School student, had the following to say about the event: "It was an honor to join Margaret at the WONder Woman Awards Banquet. It was a humbling experience to sit alongside such distinguished individuals from the community to support a foundation whose main goal is to encourage women to become involved in public policy through elected and appointed positions. Congratulations to everyone who was awarded with a WONder Woman Award! I look forward to continuing to support the WON foundation."

Margaret Scott, an active member of the WON Foundation, also commented on the event: "I truly enjoy being a member of the Women Officials Network. I look forward to the networking opportunities at this event as well as at the quarterly meetings. WON provides such a positive influence for women throughout Southeast Michigan. It's a great organization to be a part of. Congratulations to this year's deserving WONder Woman Award recipients!"

Established in 1997, Women Officials Network envisions more women in leadership positions at all levels of government. WON empowers the leaders of today and mentors women leaders of tomorrow while encouraging women to become involved in public policy through elected and appointed office.
