Michigan Treasury launching E-Lien recording process option

The Michigan Department of Treasury (Treasury) is going paperless and launching an E-lien recording process option for the state’s 83 counties.

Through a partnership with Simplifile, all Michigan counties will be able to electronically receive a majority of state tax lien filings, lien releases and reinstatements online. Treasury will begin submitting documents electronically in early 2018.

“We continue to look at process improvements that make conducting business easier for taxpayers and local units of government,” said Lynn Boyes, director of Treasury’s Office of Collections. “While it’s not mandatory to participate in the E-lien recording process, those counties that do will achieve greater
efficiency in the process.”

E-lien recording reduces bulk submissions, makes payments easier and automates document recording, reception and return. In addition, scanning,
stamping and return mailing is eliminated.

Treasury will still continue to submit paper documents and payments by U.S. Mail to counties not currently E-recording.
