Wayne State University Law School will host “Secondary Traumatic Stress and Avoiding Burnout: A Conversation with Judge Carol King” on Thursday, April 5.
King will discuss strategies for attorneys to balance emotions and secondary traumatic stress while working with refugees or other survivors of trauma.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Lecture Hall 2242 of the law school’s Damon J. Keith Center for Civil Rights, 471 W. Palmer St. Parking will be available for $7.75 (credit or debit card only) in Parking Structure No. 1 across West Palmer Street from the law school.
King was an immigration judge in San Francisco from 1995 until her retirement in 2017. She previously practiced immigration law for ten years, both with the Law Offices of Marc Van Der Hout and in her own private practice.
King now works as a removal defense strategist, advising attorneys and assisting with research and writing related to complex removal defense issues. She has presented on a myriad of substantive immigration law topics as well as on issues of credibility and of attorney competence, especially related to secondary traumatic stress.
