'Judge of the Year' - Ryan honored by Michigan Guardianship Association

Oakland County Probate Court Chief Judge Kathleen Ryan was recently honored with the “Milton L. Mack Jr. Judge of the Year” award by the Michigan Guardianship Association at their annual Spring Conference in Lansing.

Ryan was presented with the award by the first recipient and namesake of the award, the retired Judge Milton Mack who ic now state court administrator.

The Michigan Guardianship Association honors the outstanding contributions of a judge who has furthered the best interest of legally incapacitated individuals through support of the Michigan Guardianship Association. 

Ryan was recognized for her leadership and innovation in promoting and supporting education and advocacy for best practices of guardianship/conservatorship in the local community and beyond. 

Ryan was elected to the Oakland County Probate Court bench in 2010 and was appointed chief judge in January of this year. She is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. Prior to taking the bench, Ryan was partner at her law firm working as a private practitioner specializing primarily in probate and family litigation.  

Ryan is an active member of the State Bar of Michigan, the Oakland County Bar Association, and the Michigan Probate Judges Association.  She is currently the president of the Southeast Michigan Probate Judges Association.  Ryan holds memberships in the Women’s Bar Association, the Incorporated Society of Irish American Lawyers, the Michigan Irish American Chamber of Commerce, the Women’s Official Network, and the Michigan Inter Professional Association. She is also the vice chair of the SAVE Task Force (Serving Adults who are Vulnerable and/or Elderly).
