Michigan man pleads guilty to attempted witness retaliation

Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette on Wednesday announced that Kevin Beverly, 45, formerly of Washtenaw County, pleaded guilty to one count of Attempted Witness Retaliation. He was sentenced at the same hearing to 14 months to 5 years in prison. The charges were filed as a result of threats he made to his ex-wife.

The hearing was held in Jackson County Circuit Court before Judge John McBain.

"Today's sentence brings the case against Kevin Beverly to a close and guarantees Nicole Beverly and her children can move forward without fear of her ex-husband," said Schuette. "I was honored to be her advocate and voice in court during the course of this case. I must also thank my criminal division for their work in bringing Nicole justice."

Schuette charged Beverly in July of 2017 in three counties, Washtenaw, Wayne and Jackson. Beverly has already been sentenced to 5-10 years in Wayne County. In Washtenaw County he was sentenced to 5-15 years in prison on one felony count of Witness Intimidation and 8-20 years in prison on one felony count of Extortion. The Washtenaw County sentences will be served consecutively.

In October of 2012, Kevin Beverly contacted his former wife Nicole Beverly on numerous occasions at her home in Washtenaw County, instructing her as to how she should testify at their upcoming child support proceeding and made threats that she would be harmed if she did not follow his instructions. He continued to harass Nicole Beverly at her place of employment in Wayne County after she reported his conduct, including threatening to kill her for filing a police report. After being placed in prison for Aggrevated Stalking in 2012 he made threats while in prison that he would kill his ex-wife for putting him in prison.
