Families, justices, judges to celebrate Family Reunification Day

To promote the value of reunification of foster children with their families and to spotlight the many professionals who make it their duty to ensure children are returned safely to their families, Michigan Reunification Day will be celebrated Monday, June 11, in Lansing. The event takes place at the Michigan Hall of Justice in Lansing starting with a picnic for families at noon.  Program with presentation of families begins at 12:15 p.m.

Michigan is one of 27 states to hold Reunification Day events. In its third year, Michigan’s Reunification Day is a part of the American Bar Association’s annual Reunification Month.

Reunification Day festivities aim to recognize the vital role that courts, community members, professionals, volunteers, and other partners play in helping to strengthen and support families, making it possible for them to be reunified. During the event, parents and family members will share their successful stories of reunification.

The Reunification Day luncheon and program is sponsored by the Michigan Supreme Court, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, State Court Administrative Office Child Welfare Services, Michigan Court Improvement Program, and Wellspring Lutheran Services.
