Board launches Live Healthy Oakland program

The Oakland County Board of Commissioners on Wednesday announced the launch of its new Live Healthy Oakland discount program, which provides residents with an opportunity to take advantage of significant discounts on prescription, dental and health services. Live Healthy Oakland is open to all Oakland County residents and provided through an agreement with the National Association of Counties (NACo). Residents can save an average of 24% off the retail price of prescription medication and between 15%-50% on the cost of dental and health check-ups, including cleanings, fillings, vision services, hearing aids, diabetes supplies and more. The prescription discount card is available at no cost. The dental and health discount cards are available for a low annual or monthly fee.

The launch of the Live Healthy Oakland discount program is the result of an ongoing partnership between the Board and the Oakland County Health Division to explore opportunities to help residents with the rising cost of healthcare services. At the Board’s request, the Health Division reviewed all available discount card plans and recommended the NACo program as the
most comprehensive to meet the overall health needs for residents and provide maximum savings potential.

“Many Oakland County seniors and families are struggling with the rising cost of prescriptions, health and dental care. The Live Healthy Oakland program holds the potential for valuable savings for many residents at little or no cost. The Board of Commissioners is looking forward to a successful partnership with the Health Division to promote this great new program,” said Oakland County Board Chairman Michael J. Gingell.

“We want to make it easier to live healthy,” said Kathy Forzley, director of Oakland County Health and Human Services Department, which includes the Health Division. “This program is another way that we are working to achieve a community where every person that lives, works, attends school, worships, or plays in Oakland County is a healthy person with better access to medical care.”

Residents can learn more and sign up for the program at www.oakgov.com/livehealthyoakland. There are no limits placed on use, no forms to fill out, no waiting periods, no age or income requirements and no medical condition restrictions. All major chain pharmacies participate, including: Rite-Aid, Walgreens, CVS, Wal-Mart and Target, as well as most major grocery store chains and independent pharmacies. The Live Healthy Oakland discount program is not health insurance.
