Oakland County Circuit and Probate Courts commemorate Juror Appreciation Month

In conjunction with a resolution from the Michigan Supreme Court, the Oakland County Circuit and Probate Courts have designated July as Juror Appreciation Month.

To commemorate this designation, throughout the month of July the Circuit and Probate Courts have displayed a banner in the first floor lobby of the courthouse welcoming prospective jurors as they enter the building for juror service.  As part of the regular juror orientation each morning, judges welcome and thank the jurors for their time and the jury staff outlines what can be expected during the course of their service.

“We greatly appreciate citizens giving their time to serve as jurors as the jury plays such an important role in our system of justice,” stated Oakland County Circuit Court Chief Judge Shalina Kumar.

During the week of July 23rd, jurors will be treated to special refreshments as a small way to thank them for being a valuable asset to our judicial system.

Oakland County Probate Court Chief Judge Kathleen A. Ryan commented, “The dedication of those who serve as jurors is vital to our courts and on behalf of the courts and the citizens of Oakland County, I sincerely thank all prospective jurors for their service.”

In 2017, the Circuit and Probate Courts summoned 39,744 prospective jurors, of whom 9,135 were required to report for service, and ultimately 1,835 were selected to sit as jurors.
