Appeals court judges featured at 'Luncheon Limine' online February 17

In its continuing efforts to foster collegiality between the Oakland County bench and bar, the Oakland County Bar Association (OCBA) will continue its "Luncheon Limine" brown bag lunch series between judges and attorneys online via Zoom. "Luncheon Limine-Court of Appeals" will take place Thursday, February 17, from noon to 1 p.m.

Participants can bring their questions (and their lunch) for an informal discussion of legal topics and practice issues. February's lunch takes participants beyond Oakland County and will feature the opportunity to get to know and ask questions of Michigan Court of Appeals Chief Judge Elizabeth L. Gleicher and Judge Collen A. O'Brien.

Gleicher was appointed to the court in 2007. Previously, she was an attorney in private practice for twenty-seven years. She began her career at Goodman, Eden, Millender, & Bedrosian in Detroit, and opened her own litigation practice in 1994. She is an elected Fellow of the International Society of Barristers (2004) and the American College of Trial Lawyers (2005). She received the Respected Advocate Award from the Michigan Defense Trial Counsel in 2005 and the State Bar of Michigan Champion of Justice Award in 2001.

Gleicher has served on the faculty of the Institute for Continuing Legal Education and as an adjunct professor at Wayne State University Law School. She received her bachelor's degree from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, and her law degree from Wayne State University Law School. Her term expires January 1, 2025.

O'Brien was appointed to the Court of Appeals in October of 2015. She practiced law for 17 years prior to being elected to the Oakland County Circuit Court in 1998. As a circuit judge, she served as the presiding judge of the Female Adult Treatment Court for twelve years and as the presiding judge of the Civil/Criminal Division for several years.

O'Brien is a long time member of the Michigan Judges Association and served as president in 2015. She has also served as president of the Oakland County Women's Bar Association and served on the Board of Directors of the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan. An active member of the Oakland County Bar Association, she received the Distinguished Public Servant Award in 2011.

O'Brien received her bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan and her law degree from the Detroit College of Law. Her term expires January 1, 2023.
