A memorial service will be held for attorney Richard Barton Ginsberg at 5 p.m. today at the Muehlig Funeral Chapel, 403 S. Fourth Ave. in Ann Arbor.
Ginsberg, 65, died unexpectedly at his Ann Arbor home on Wednesday, August 29, and is suvived by his wife of 28 years, Cheryl Cassidy, and their daughter, Katie Cassidy-Ginsberg.
"Richard Ginsberg was a consummate professional who was highly respected and deeply appreciated by all of us," said Washtenaw County Public Defender Lloyd Powell. "We will miss Richard and cherish his legacy of achievement."
Attorney Mark Hugger said his death is a loss to so many people in so many ways.
"In a town with a lot of bright attorneys, he was one of the smartest," he said, adding that he was always willing to answer a question about the law.
The Baltimore native was an Ann Arbor resident since arriving for Michigan Law School in 1969. He worked as a volunteer attorney for ISTA before working for the Michigan State Appellate Defender Office, then as an independent criminal defense lawyer.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
