In Memoriam: David C. McLaughlin

Attorney David C. McLaughlin of Chelsea died unexpectedly on May 27 at the age of 78.

Born in Jackson, McLaughlin was an alumnus of Chelsea High School, where he played on the varsity football team beginning as a freshman and set records in track and field as a hurdler. 

He went on to play football at University of Michigan and graduated in 1967. 

He received his law degree from Wayne State University in 1970. 

He opened his law practice in Chelsea in 1972 and continued practicing law until his death.

McLaughlin was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Chelsea, Faith in Action, and Zion Lutheran Church, in which he served a term of president in the latter two. 

McLaughlin is survived by wife Jane; children Christine (Drew) Hazelton of Oak Park, Calif., Elizabeth (Matthew) Ehrhard of Vero Beach, Fla., and Damon (Kimberly) McLaughlin of Spring Lake, Mich.; grandchildren Elle & Peri Hazelton, Malone Ehrhard, and William & George McLaughlin; brother James O. McLaughlin of Harbor Springs, Mich.; brother-in-law Gordon Starr of Columbus, Ind.; and several nephews and nieces.

A celebration of life will be held in Chelsea on July 14. Details will be forthcoming. Donations in McLaughlin’s memory may be made to Faith in Action, 603 S. Main St, Chelsea, MI 48118.
