Firm's Ann Arbor office lands on top tier list

Brinks Gilson & Lione, the sixth-largest IP law firm in the United States, with Michigan offices in Ann Arbor and Detroit, has again been recognized as a top-tier law firm by U.S. News & World Report and Best Lawyers in its 2015 list of “Best Law Firms.”

Brinks is ranked nationally in Tier 1, the highest level ranking, in the category of Patent Law for the fifth year in a row, and in Tier 1 in the category of Trademark Law for the third year in a row. In the metropolitan rankings, encompassing 182 major U.S. markets in eight states, Brinks' Ann Arbor office achieved a Tier 1 ranking for Litigation-Intellectual Property, Patent Law, and Trademark Law.
In August, it was announced that Ann Arbor Managing Partner Steven L. Oberholtzer and Ann Arbor shareholder, Eric J. Sosenko, were selected by their peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America© 2015. Oberholtzer was recognized in the area of patent law and Sosenko was recognized for intellectual property litigation, patent law and trademark law. Additionally, Sosenko was named The Best Lawyers in America© 2015 Ann Arbor patent law "Lawyer of the Year."
The “Best Law Firms” rankings are based on a rigorous evaluation process that includes client and lawyer evaluations, peer review from leading attorneys in their field, and review of additional information provided by the law firms themselves. Clients were asked to provide feedback on firm practice groups, addressing expertise, responsiveness, understanding of a business and its needs, cost-effectiveness, civility, and whether they would refer another client to the firm. Lawyers voted on expertise, responsiveness, integrity, cost-effectiveness, whether they would refer a matter to a firm, and whether they consider a firm a worthy competitor. To be eligible for consideration as one of the “Best Law Firms,” a firm must have at least one attorney listed in the current edition of Best Lawyers.
Brinks lawyers provide expertise in all aspects of patent, trademark, unfair competition, trade secret and copyright law. The firm's lawyers, who have advanced degrees across all fields of technology and science, serve commercial clients, innovators and research universities in every technical field, including in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, energy, agriculture, electrical and computer technologies, the mechanical arts, medical devices, green technology, and nanotechnology. In addition to Ann Arbor and Detroit, Brinks has offices in Chicago; Washington, D.C.; Research Triangle Park, N.C.; Salt Lake City and Indianapolis.
