Man convicted in 2001 slaying gets life in prison
PONTIAC (AP) -- A man convicted in the brutal 2001 killing and sexual mutilation of a Detroit-area man professed his innocence before being sent to prison for the rest of his life.
Fifty-one-year-old Robert Nowak was sentenced Tuesday to the mandatory term of life in prison without parole in the slaying of 26-year-old Troy Moross. Nowak says he had no reason to hurt Moross and claims that falsified documents misled the jury.
Moross' father Arthur Moross says the slaying destroyed his family.
Troy Moross' body was found in a Madison Heights industrial park two days after he was seen leaving a bar with another man. Nowak, who used to live and work in Madison Heights near where Moross was found, was identified in 2009 through a national DNA database.
