Wayne Law to host annual labor law symposium Oct. 13

Wayne State University Law School students, alumni and friends interested in increasing their insight into labor law are invited to attend the 19th annual Bernard Gottfried Memorial Labor Law Symposium from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13. Sponsored by Wayne Law, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), Region Seven, and the State Bar of Michigan Labor and Employment Law Section, the symposium will be conducted in the Law School's Spencer M. Partrich Auditorium and will feature breakout sessions led by local and national labor relations experts. Sessions include "A Swinging Pendulum or Course Correction: Board Cases of Recent Vintage," "Is Collective Bargaining at the Crossroads?," "A Union's Duty to Providing Information," and "Bringing and Unfair Labor Practice Case Before Region Seven." Lafe E. Solomon, acting NLRB general counsel, will serve as the keynote speaker. "We are pleased to honor the legacy of Bernard Gottfried once again through this symposium, and we look forward to providing the legal community with this extraordinary opportunity to hear from well-known labor law experts," said Wayne Law Dean Robert M. Ackerman. Bernard Gottfried (1925-1992) was director of the National Labor Relations Board, Region Seven, from 1973 until his death. He taught at Wayne Law for many years and this symposium honors his vision for labor relations. The registration fee for the symposium is $100 and includes all sessions, a continental breakfast and lunch. Students, NLRB staff and government employees may register for a reduced cost of $25. Proceeds from the symposium will be used to fund future educational programs and labor-related studies at the Law School. Parking is available for $4.75 in Structure #1 on West Palmer Street in front of the Law School.
