Wayne Law community volunteers time --Cleans up Belle Isle through Service Day event
Wayne State University Law School students, faculty and staff members recently gathered for Wayne Law's annual Service Day on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011. The event took place from 3-6 p.m. at Belle Isle Park. More than 50 volunteers braved the rain to visit the Belle Isle Conservatory and clear brush and trim trees near the green house in preparation for new trees to be planted.
''It was touching to see the student response to this event,'' said Felicia Thomas, event coordinator and director of Recruitment and Enrollment. ''Everyone really pulled together and put forth 100 percent effort on this project. I am so grateful for the dedication and hard work demonstrated in this effort. I would also like to thank Melvadean 'Mebby' Pearson and the Friends of Belle Isle for making this project possible."
LexisNexis provided water and snacks for participants. A shuttle from Wayne Law to the site was generously provided by the Damon J. Keith Center for Civil Rights.
