Patriot Week to feature events to help renew the American spirit

Created by Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Michael Warren and his daughter Leah, the goal of Patriot Week is to renew the American spirit by focusing on education to revive appreciation and understanding of American history. Anchored by the key dates of Sept. 11 (Patriot Day) and Sept. 17 (the signing of the Constitution), Patriot Week celebrates the First Principles, Founding Fathers and Founding Documents that made the United States a leader in freedom and the world-recognized model of a democratic society. The following is a schedule of special events during this year's Patriot Week: * Sept. 11--"Patriot Palooza!" 1 to 5 p.m., Detroit's Historic Fort Wayne, 6325 West Jefferson, in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks, the Patriot Palooza! will feature a tribute to first responders, veterans, and current service officers. All activities are family-friendly, with free admission, open to the public, with $5 secured parking. * Sept. 12--"Diversity and Equality in a Post 9/11 World," 5:30 to 6 p.m., Thomas M. Cooley Law School, 2630 Featherstone Rd, Auburn Hills, panel discussion moderated by Judge Michael Warren, a free event, open to the public. Old Woodward in Birmingham, special movie about the inspirational soldier Mikie Ingram and his family. Nine Mile Road in Ferndale, documentary about the women of the historic 109th Congress. A free event, open to the public. Register with nwilinski@plunkettcooney.com. * Sept. 14--"The Story of an American Repatriate" by Tom Moordian, 7 p.m., Bloomfield Township Library, 1099 Lone Pine Road in Bloomfield Township, story of author's trip to USSR, his daily survival, and journey back to America. A free event, open to the public. * Sept. 16-17--"Patriot Week Festival," downtown Holly: --Sept. 16, 4 to 10 p.m., Patriot Presentations, live music, and beer tent. --Sept. 17, 10 a.m., Patriot Parade. --Sept. 17, noon to 5 p.m., Community Play Day at Crapo Park.
