Man enters plea in death of undercover officer
PONTIAC (AP) -- A 49-year-old Detroit man has pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of second-degree murder in the shooting death of an undercover police officer.
Terry Bowling entered the plea Monday in courtroom in Pontiac as part of a deal with prosecutors on the day his trial was scheduled to start. Sentencing is Oct. 19. A no contest plea is not an admission of guilt, but is treated as such for sentencing purposes.
A Jan. 17 confrontation in Walled Lake left Livonia Officer Larry Nehasil and Bowling's brother David dead. Authorities have said they think 44-year-old David Bowling used a gun stolen in a burglary to kill Nehasil, and Terry Bowling was to be the getaway driver.
With the plea, Terry Bowling could be released on parole after 30 years.
